Artist Statement
Humans are Complicated creatures, filled with confusing emotions and contradictions. It is always my goal to not only represent these complexities onstage, but to relate them to the audience watching. There is truth in everything, and I strive to find it.
Finding these truths extends to the ones that people may not want to see. Acknowledging things like mental health struggles or sexism are especially important to me. These are things I have struggled with in my own life, making them the kinds of stories I like to tell. The only way we will ever solve problems is by discussing them, meaning that starting a dialogue is half the battle.
I’ve struggled with my body image my entire life. I nearly quit acting as a tennager due to my beliefs that being plus sized meant I could never succeed. I didn’t look like a Barbie doll or a Disney Princess, and knew I never would. It wasn’t until I saw a local production of Little Shop of Horrors with a plus size Audrey and Seymour that I realized there were other people who looked like me doing the things I wanted to do. I strive to be that for someone else. I want to prove that your talent matters more than your figure.
